Yet, despite intense planning and vast efforts, Britain's campaign resulted in disaster when General John Burgoyne, with 6,000 soldiers, emerged from a woodline and surrendered his army to the Patriots at Saratoga in October 1777.
Underneath the umbrella of Saratoga, countless battles and skirmishes were waged from the borders of Canada southward to Ticonderoga, Bennington, and West Point. I got this book on Audible book and found Dennis Johnson to be very easy to listen to in the reading. The only problem is there are no maps but a quick Google can remedy that problem. Michael Logusz has done a great job in his research and the first person accounts from both sides keeps this very interesting. It was almost like being on the battlefield listening to the accounts, also the reactions of the civilians are covered very well. A lot of people don’t realize that this was more then just a war between colonists and British and German troops but also a civil war between the people in the colonies, Michael Logusz brings this out in the book.Product details

This is an excellent history of the Saratoga campaign. Michael Logusz has done a fine job of presenting the various strands of a very complex campaign. The narrator needs to learn how to pronounce the names of people of places before going to the recording studio. There are many times one has to stop the narration and replay it one or more times to figure out what is being talked about. For example, a mention of Field Marshall Blucher sounds like "Blucker". Despite the flaws in presentation the book keeps ones interest and would be a fine addition to any library on Colonial America.
