The purpose of this book is to tell the story of our experiences in caring for our father who suffers from dementia. This book is not written by professional caregivers or medical professionals. It is, rather, written by us, a brother (Paul) and sister (Jean) who are faced with the challenges of providing daily care for our father in our home. We do not offer medical advice nor clinically proven solutions. Instead, what we offer are insights and practical solutions to problems and struggles that any person caring for a loved one with dementia will likely face. All of it comes out of real life experiences we have had with our own father, and nothing else. Each chapter in this book, written in story form, focuses on a specific aspect in our Dad's life. In this book, we have included photographs of our father. Most of these pictures were taken at the very moment of an "event."

Dementia The Journey Of Caring For Our Father At Home eBook Jean Thayer Paul McCormick

This is an inspirational book because it's such a personal account, delivered in a candid but respectful way. The authors are matter-of-fact but their human warmth and huge love for their father shines through. It's also packed with useful background information about Alzheimer's, and other forms of dementia, plus sound practical advice.

I have not been called upon to care for a loved one with dementia. On one level I hope I never will. But we deal with the hand life deals us.

I do, however, work professionally with people with dementia and this book provides some useful insights.

Some of the formatting in the Kindle version could do with tidying up, but that's only a minor issue. Highly recommended.

My husband was just diagnosed with dementia. This book was a big help, very practical. I hadn't even heard of sundowners syndrome which we have had experience with.
This book has been a great help to me as my sister and I are committed to caring for our Mother as Paul and Jean did for their father. I could relate to do many things in this book.
This is a quick read and very helpful. I'm going to share it with my support group on Monday night.
